Conquering UK : A Sole-less Soul in London

Several years ago, my sister bought me a pair of rockport walking shoes which was manly in looks but solid. I barely had the the opportunity to use it so I decided to wear it on this trip since I was anticipating a lot of walking. I brought no spare pair because I had full confidence in the durability of the shoes and I also did not want additional shoes to add weight to my luggage.

I first noticed the flipflapping on my left shoe while disembarking from the train. I looked down and saw that my rubber sole was loosened at the back..about 1/2 of the way. I pointed this out to my brother and he promised to fix it as soon as we get to our friend's house. In the meantime, I toured London with flip-flopping sole!

When we got to out friend's house, we could not find an adhesive for shoes and the store nearby did not sell any. By this time, the sole was now loosened about 2/3rds of the way and I was left with no choice but to remove it. The discrepancy in height between my sole-less and my good shoe was noticeable, but I could not let something like this stop me from exploring London!  It was a good thing too that the base of the shoe was solid and afforded protection from the puddles of London!

My companions pushed me to buy new shoes ... probably they were embarrass of me or probably just concerned of my safety.  I was however thinking of the exchange rate of 70 pesos to1  Pound so I told myself that my sole-less shoe is fine!

Call it fate, or call it the prodding of the fashion gods but we chanced upon a bargain store and my sister-in-law happily guided me inside it! I did get a pair of sturdy boots!

My Good Shoe..

When my brother finally fixed my shoe, I asked him if the sole will hold. He said he was not sure and anyway, if it will fall then it will fall. That was not very re-assuring so I wore my boots on my trip back to manila and eventually Dumaguete!  When my niece saw my boots, she said I looked like Miley Cyrus! Honestly, I would have preferred Angelina Jolie but Hannah Montana rules in her world over Tomb Raider!
