One of my favorite poems is IF by Rudyard Kipling. I have seen parts of it reproduced and hanged in offices, clinics and even in nurses' stations. WHAT IF "IF" is translated in the visayan dialect...
IF Kung
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too
Daggan suya-an sa kalibutan Dodong.
Paning-kamot ra imuha.
Kung libakon ka, ayaw pang-libak balik.
Paminawa ra, kung naay kamatu-uran, akseptaha
Kung wala, pasagdi sila.
Kinsa bay sakitan ug tiyan?
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies
Or being hated, don't give way to hating
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise
Kung but-butan ka Dodong, ayaw pamutbut pud!
Puro na nya mo but-buton!
Kung naay ga lagot nimo, es-smiley ra
Likayi ang lalis
Para dili ma adto sa pulis.
If you can dream, and not make dreams your master
If you can think, and not make thoughts your aim
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same
Pa-ngambisyun Dodong
Ayaw lang himu-a imo ambisyon ang imo ginoo
Trabaho tuda Dodong,
Pero ayaw himu- a ang trabaho ang imo kinabuhi
Ma-dato, ma-pobre basta malipayun...
Pyts gihapon.
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools
Kung ang gi sulti nimo tu-is tu-ison
Sulahi lang imo paminawon
Kung mawala sa imo ang tanan.
Kayaha Dodong mo bangon!
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss
Kung ma wala tanan tinigum nimo Dodong
Kay imo gi taya sa jueteng
Kung sa imo kapildihon, wala kay pag-basol...
Dong, tinu-oray ka na sugarol!
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"
Kung wala na gyud na bilin sa imo,
bisan piso pang sigarilyo
Kung mangutana ang mga ga salig sa imo
Hain na pang bugas ninyo
Ayaw nalang daghanna ug sulti Dodong,
Ingon nalang "Hold on"
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue
Or walk with kings, nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you
If all men count with you, but none too much
Kung barkada nimo mga dato
Ayaw kalimti ang pobre
Hinumdumi, ang langaw nakapatong sa kabaw
Langaw gihapon, dili kabaw
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son
Ang kalibutan ma imoha gayud
Pero ang pinaka-importante Dodong..
MA LALAKI NA GYUD KA!
APPIR!
